Meet the Artist

W. Scott Fenton

W. Scott Fenton, a Denver native, has spent more than 50 years enjoying Colorado's backcountry.  As  son, husband, and father, he has indulged and shared his love for camping, hiking, skiing and dirt biking across the West. Scott's appreciation for God's creation challenges him to interpret and portray the unending variety of Nature each time he picks up his brush.

Initially Scott turned to painting as stress relief from his first career in healthcare.  His artistic studies drew him deeper into this avocation.  Ultimately, Scott realized his soul's true calling - applying paint to canvas.

Scott sought mentors to help him learn the levels of skill required to paint well.  He was fortunate to study under prominent Colorado teachers such as William Tyler Marks and Gerald V. Lilly, who himself was once a student-apprentice of William Henry Jackson.

Each in his own way taught Scott approaches and styles of color and composition in the techniques of landscape masters.  Over a period of seven years, Scott fine-tuned multiple competencies under Lilly's exquisite direction.   Particularly in color and vast distant panoramas, Scott's work now reflects techniques similar to those used by Thomas Moran and Albert Bierstadt.

. Scott  Fenton creatively refers to his overall painting technique as "classic realism - with a small brush application - using broken color."

Over the years, Scott applied "the science of painting" in order to create his unique style.  Eventually he devised an alphabetical checklist to produce his work.

Throughout his work, from vistas of U.S. National Parks, the painted deserts of Arizona and his beloved Rocky Mountains, Scott focuses on mastering color transition and atmospheric separation through value control.

Scott strives, in each new piece, to interpret Nature's beauty captured on canvas and makes his work available to collectors the world over.  He dedicates his energies to achieving this goal.

Scott currently exhibits in Scottsdale, AZ with Gasov & Gurule International Fine Art.  In 1988, under the mentorship of Art Services Ltd. and Ronald D. Rotstein, Scott sold his work through Christie's East.
